EmpatiQ can be useful for sales discovery practice when a learner needs to understand a customer's situation and respond to an objection. An AI counterpart can play a fictional prospect, giving the learner a conversation to conduct and review.

Sales trainers can build the exercise around their own discovery method. Individual professionals can create a private scenario for the kind of question or objection they want to rehearse.

A prospect who says they already have a solution

Consider a fictional prospect discussing how their team handles incoming requests. They begin by saying that their existing system works and that they do not want another tool.

The learner's task is to understand that position. Does the current approach fit the team's needs? What would make a change worth considering? There may be no reason to propose a change within this conversation.

The scenario gives the learner an opportunity to ask a relevant question, hear a constraint, and decide how to proceed. The counterpart's objection supplies material for discovery.

Define what the learner should establish

Write a brief with a learner role, a fictional prospect role, and the information already available. Include the boundaries of the conversation and any product information the learner is allowed to use.

An objective might be: “Clarify the prospect's current approach, one relevant concern, and whether a further discussion would be useful.”

Assessment criteria can examine whether the learner:

  • Asks about the prospect's situation without inserting an assumed problem.
  • Follows up on the answer and checks their understanding.
  • Connects any proposed next step with the stated concern.
  • Describes the offering accurately within the brief.

A trainer can adapt these criteria to the method taught in a course. A private scenario lets an individual define the same kind of focused exercise.

Rehearse the follow-up to an objection

Run the conversation in voice or text. When the prospect objects, choose a response based on the information they have given. You might ask what their current approach does well or clarify the part of your proposal they are concerned about.

Afterward, review the transcript at that moment. Did the next question reveal useful context? Did you use the answer, or continue toward a proposal you had already decided to make?

The AI debrief assesses the authored criteria for that attempt. Review its interpretation against the exchange, then choose one change for the next run.

Where this fits in sales training

This exercise can sit beside a discovery lesson, support onboarding to a teaching method, or give an experienced learner a particular objection to revisit. A trainer can vary the counterpart's priorities while keeping the objective clear.

The useful output is evidence of how the learner conducted that fictional exchange. A score from the scenario describes the practice attempt; it does not predict conversion or a real customer's decision.
